Stop wasting time with this trick

How to make the most of your language learning session, especially when time’s short.

Does this sound familiar?

You’ve got 30 minutes to work on your Italian/Japanese/Swahili.

You set yourself up in a comfortable corner in your favourite café or at your kitchen table ready to do some focused learning.

You have your:

  • notebook

  • list of new vocabulary

  • grammar book

  • bookmarked online news article

  • podcast episode

So where to start?

You could go over some pages in your notebook to refresh what you’ve done before.

Or maybe you should write some sentences to practise those new words.

Then again, why not check that grammar problem that keeps tripping you up and do an exercise on it.

Or would actively copying a paragraph from the news article be more useful?

But instead might it be better to listen to that podcast?

The clock’s running … yet you can’t decide what to do.

You keep dithering and dallying.

Suddenly 20 minutes are over and you’ve done nothing.

Such a frustrating waste of time.

Here’s how to stop this from happening again.

Use those last 10 minutes to now decide what you’ll begin with next time.

So that when you sit down the next time, you’ll get going immediately.

Making your focused learning session more productive and enjoyable.

When my clients start using this trick, they tell me how satisfied they feel as they now always accomplish something during their learning session.

The key is to stop wasting time by knowing what you’ll do next.
